Power-ups, chests and coins

Power-ups give your crowd a short boost, chests give you free units, and coins buy upgrades in the shop. Here is what each one does, with the real numbers from the game.

Power-ups on the map

There are 22 power-ups on the map. Walk into one to use it. When a power-up is used, it comes back 12 seconds later at a new spot, as a random type:

Power-upWhat it doesChance
Speed45% faster for 8 s35%
Shieldno losses for 6 s25%
Magnetpulls grey people for 10 s22%
Chest11 units + 10 coins18%
Orange speed power-up with a lightning bolt

Speed

  • 8 seconds
  • 45% faster

Your crowd moves 45% faster for 8 seconds. Use it to catch a green-ring crowd, to escape from a red one, or to reach a far chest quickly.

Speed matters because crowds slow down as they grow: a full crowd is about 19% slower, and fighting slows you to 70% speed. A speed boost more than makes up for either one.

Blue shield power-up

Shield

  • 6 seconds
  • No losses

For 6 seconds your crowd loses no units, enemy crowds won't attack you, and arrows can't hurt you. Every round also starts with an 8-second shield.

Pro tip: crowds that touch still fight, but only you are safe. Walk into a yellow-ring crowd while your shield is on: it loses power every second and you lose nothing. Just finish the fight or leave before the 6 seconds end.

Red magnet power-up

Magnet

  • 10 seconds
  • 240 px

For 10 seconds, the magnet pulls grey people to you from up to 240 pixels away. It is best in a busy spot with lots of grey people around, especially ones with a gold ring (archers, barbarians and giants).

Wooden treasure chest

Chests

  • 11 units
  • +10 coins

A chest gives you 8 soldiers, 2 archers and 1 barbarian at once. That is 15 power, plus 10 coins.

Look for chests inside forts: squares of stone walls with 4 doors. A map has up to 6 forts. Sometimes a chest is also out on the open map: 18% of the power-ups that come back are chests. On the minimap in the bottom-left corner, chests are yellow dots.

Only you can open chests. Enemy crowds can't, so nobody will steal yours: go for it when the way is safe.

How to earn coins

There is no rank bonus if your crowd was beaten or you pressed END ROUND. And on Treasure day in the Daily Challenge, the map has twice as many coins.

Spending coins in the shop

Each upgrade costs more at every level: the price is the base price × the next level. So level 3 of Bigger Start costs 40 × 3 = 120 coins.
