Questions and answers

Quick answers to the questions players ask most. Can't find yours? Write to us on the contact page.

Playing the game

Is Crowd Clash free?

Yes. Crowd Clash is a free game that you play in your browser. All coins and upgrades are earned by playing.

Do I need to download it or make an account?

No. Open crowdclash.io and press PLAY. There is nothing to download and no account to make. If you like, you can install it like an app.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Crowd Clash works on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone or tablet, put your finger anywhere on the screen and drag: your crowd walks the way you drag.

What are the controls?

How long is a round?

Every round lasts 4 minutes. You play against 16 enemy crowds, each with a name, on a big square map with water around it. When the timer ends, the biggest crowds take the top places.

I'm new. Is there a tutorial?

Yes. Your very first round starts with a short tutorial: move, grab 5 grey people, beat a green crowd and run from a red one. Press Skip if you don't need it. And in your first 2 rounds, enemy crowds start at only 60% of their size.

Coins, upgrades and levels

How do I get coins?

There is no rank bonus if your crowd was beaten or you pressed END ROUND.

How do upgrades work?

Spend your coins in the Shop. An upgrade works in every round after you buy it. Each level costs more than the one before: the price is the base price × the next level. So level 3 of Bigger Start costs 40 × 3 = 120 coins.

UpgradeLevelsBase price
Bigger Start
+2 soldiers
1040
Archer Squad
+1 archer
560
Barbarian Squad
+1 barbarian
580
Giant Friend
+1 giant
3200
Fast Feet
+4% speed
570
Recruiter
+5% of beaten enemies join you
590

The first levels give the most for your coins, so start with the first levels of Bigger Start and Giant Friend. The total price of every upgrade is in the shop guide.

How do levels and XP work?

You get XP at the end of every round: 20 for playing, 10 for each crowd you beat, 0.2 for each unit of your biggest crowd, and 60, 40 or 25 extra for finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

You need 100 XP for level 2. After that, each level needs 40 XP more than the one before: 140 more for level 3, 180 more for level 4, and so on. Every new level gives you 50 coins.

Can I change the colour of my crowd?

Yes, in the Shop. Blue is free, Gold and Purple cost 150 coins, Pink and Black 250, and White 400.

Your progress

Is my progress saved?

Yes, automatically. Your coins, level and upgrades are saved in the browser on your device, so you don't need an account. The next time you open Crowd Clash in the same browser, everything is still there.

How do I move my progress to another device?

Use a backup code:

  1. On the device with your progress, open Settings, tap BACKUP and copy the code.
  2. On the other device, open Settings, tap RESTORE and paste the code.

Careful: restoring replaces the progress on the device where you paste the code. A backup code is also a good safety copy, so keep it somewhere safe. It brings back your progress as it was when you made the code.

My coins are gone. What happened?

Your progress is saved in one browser on one device. You won't see it in another browser or on another device, and it is deleted when the browser data for crowdclash.io is cleared. We can't bring deleted progress back, so make a new backup code from time to time.

Offline, app and updates

Can I play offline?

Yes. After your first visit, Crowd Clash also works without internet. Just open it as usual, in the browser or as an installed app.

Can I install it as an app?

Yes. Once it is installed, Crowd Clash opens like any other app.

How do I get the newest version?

The game updates itself. When a new version is ready, the home screen shows New version ready – tap to update. To see which version you have, open Settings: the version number is at the bottom. What changed in each version is on the updates page.

The game runs slowly on my device. What can I do?

Open Settings and look at Quality. You can choose Auto, Low or High. On an older phone or computer, choose Low for a smoother game.

How do I turn off the music or sounds?

Press M or tap the music button to turn the music on or off. Settings has sliders for the music and the sounds.

Winning and losing

Why did I lose?

Your crowd is beaten when it has no units left after a fight. These are the most common reasons:

  1. You touched a red-ring crowd. Red means it has more than 115% of your power. In a fight, each crowd loses power every second equal to half the other crowd's power, so the stronger crowd wins. Run from red rings and grow first.
  2. You fought a yellow-ring crowd. Yellow means it is about as strong as you, and an even fight can beat both crowds.
  3. Arrows hit you. Archers shoot at crowds up to 170 px away, before the fight even starts. A shield blocks arrows.
  4. Your shield ran out. The start shield lasts 8 seconds and a shield power-up 6 seconds. After that, enemy crowds can attack you again.

Didn't finish 1st? When the timer ends, the biggest crowds take the top places, and there is no rank bonus if your crowd was beaten or you pressed END ROUND. The tips guide shows how to finish 1st.

What do the coloured rings mean?

A gold ring under a grey person means a special unit: an archer, a barbarian or a giant. Grab them!

Why is my crowd so slow?

Small crowds are the fastest. Every unit slows you down a little, so a full crowd of 350 units is about 19% slower, and fighting slows you to 70% speed. To go faster, grab a Speed power-up (45% faster for 8 seconds) or buy Fast Feet in the Shop (+4% speed for each level).

What happens to the crowds I beat?

40% of a beaten crowd's units join you (always at least 1 soldier), and every level of the Recruiter upgrade adds 5% more. The beaten crowd comes back 5 seconds later somewhere else, sized to match your strength, so there is always another crowd to beat.

Can I challenge my friends?

Yes. After a round you can share a picture with a challenge link, like crowdclash.io/?c=219. It asks your friends: "Can you beat 219?"

What is the Daily Challenge?

Every day, everyone plays the same map with 1 special rule, like Giants only or Fast crowds. It changes at 00:00 UTC (9:00 in Japan), and your best crowd of the day is saved. All 9 rules, the daily reward and the daily missions are in the daily guide.
